Toronto International Film Festival has just announced that Peter Schønau Fog’s YOU DISAPPEAR has been selected as an official Special Presentation at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival, where it will be celebrating its international premiere.
Peter Schønau Fog’s previous feature film, THE ART OF CRYING celebrated its world premiere in Toronto in 2006 and was later screened at several international film festivals such as San Sebastian International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival and Tallin Black Nights Film Festival.
Producer at Zentropa, Louise Vesth says: ”YOU DISAPPEAR has made a great impact on Danish cinemagoers and brought along a big audience on Peter Schønau Fog’s wondrous journey of discovery into the human brain. Audiences have experienced the film in several different ways, because the brain experiences in different and individual ways, therefore we look very much forward to presenting the film to the North American audience and the international film industry and learn how they experience the film.”
The film stars Trine Dyrholm (THE COMMUNE, 2016; A ROYAL AFFAIR, 2012), Nikolaj Lie Kaas (A CONSPIRACY OF FAITH, 2016; THE ABSENT ONE, 2014; THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES, 2013) and the newly deceased Michael Nyqvist (A SERIOUS GAME, 2016; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, 2011; THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, 2009) in the lead.
YOU DISAPPEAR has been sold to Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Latin America (California Filmes), China (DD Dream International Media), Poland (Bomba Film), Former Yugoslavia (Cinemania Groupicon), Estonia, Lithuania & Latvia (Scanorama).
The film is based on the bestselling novel YOU DISAPPEAR by author Christian Jungersen, which spent more than one year on the bestseller list in Denmark and attracted many international publishers including USA, Germany, France, The Netherlands and Norway.
Mia is married to the successful headmaster Frederik, who is caught embezzling from his own school. But did he do this of his own free will – or has his personality been altered by the tumour lurking in his brain?Mia is desperate to uncover what kind of man she is actually married to. If the happiest three years of Mia’s life with Frederik were while he had a tumour in his brain, who was she married to before? YOU DISAPPEAR is a movie about the challenges we face as neuroscience forces us to rethink what we are as human beings.
YOU DISAPPEAR is written and directed by Peter Schønau Fog, photographed by Laust Trier Mørk with production design by Søren Gam and Gitte Malling. YOU DISAPPEAR is produced by Louise Vesth for Zentropa with support from the Danish Film Institute, TV2 Denmark, TV4 Sweden, Den Vestdanske Filmpulje, Film Väst, the Swedish Film Institute and Nordisk Film.
